Corporations are going for expansion and better utilization of resources to gain a competitive position in the industry. Companies are acquiring other companies to have a larger market share and enhanced shareholder value. Valuation occupies an important role in this process of mergers and acquisitions. Business entities are the engines of wealth creation in a society. A society prospers economically if its business entities create wealth. India, too, has witnessed substantial wealth creation over the past three decades, thanks to the dynamism of business entities.
The primary objective of a business entity is to create long-term economic value in a legal, ethical, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner.
All managers participate in the value-creation process in some way or another. So, irrespective of their work area, every manager needs a basic understanding of valuation and value creation.

6.Introduction to Banking and Financial Markets
Centuries ago, ‘Barter’ was the only mode of exchange for goods and services. Then came ‘commodity money’ (gold) followed by ‘fiat money’ (currency) and the M1-M2-M3 measure of money. Rapid industrialization and the exponential increase in business and trade resulted in the need for businesses and governments to raise more capital (money) to sustain their growth. Simultaneously, the increase in international trade (exports and imports) between countries meant increased cross-border flow of goods and services and hence the need for cross-currency transactions and ‘exchange rates’ between currencies.
In this course you will learn about:
The theory and concepts underlying Banking and Financial Markets
The products and instruments that are offered by Banks and Financial Markets to meet the financial needs of individuals, businesses and governments
The underlying market mechanisms and how the financial instruments are traded (i.e. bought and sold)
